Thank you for visiting my website. In my gallery you will find work under different categories, as I tend to work on these in parallel.
Strata - I am inspired by the rock formations and strata found in the landscape. This has been with me since my GCE Geology study at school and have a collection of different rocks collected from around the UK. Only now in retirement have I had the opportunity to explore my emotional connection with the earth tones and textures I have for so long been attracted to. I use a variety of coloured stoneware clays with mostly similar shrinkage rates along with the occasional stain. I make mostly functional pots such as vases and plant containers using the flat coil method and then scraping back the surface. I enjoy how people see different things in the pots bringing to them their own interpretation and meaning as they are reminded of a place special to them.
Sculpture - Recently in my ceramic journey I have realised that I really enjoy sculpting. Currently the human form as small changes to facial features can convey gender, character, mood, emotions etc. I find this extremely rewarding. Saggar - I have recently begun experimenting in saggar firing in my electric kiln, inspired by a book with that same title by Jolanda Van de Grint, which is an excellent step by step practical guide. There is an inevitable element of unpredictability in the final outcome, though the pleasure of a successful and unexpected result is immense.
Garden - I make cane toppers in a variety of designs, for example inspired by garden birds and poppy heads. These were initially made as presents for friends and now many people like to buy them.
I do sell my work from time to time, and if any of it interests you, please contact me.
